The Grand Rounds, one of the nation's most ambitious urban parkway projects, has defined Minneapolis for 140 years, linking the city’s lakes, rivers, creeks, and civic spaces. Yet one critical segment remains unbuilt, leaving East Side residents disconnected. The Grand Rounds Missing Link project addresses this longstanding gap by repurposing underused roadways, restoring brownfields, and revealing buried waterways, turning the challenges of an urban environment into opportunities to improve connectivity, enhance ecology, and celebrate community identity. Participatory geospatial platforms empowered residents and agencies to collaboratively shape the corridor, establishing a model for building legacy infrastructure in dense urban environments.
