WxLA Minnesota

We’re looking for leaders!

WxLA Minnesota is seeking passionate, creative, and committed individuals to help guide our mission of advocacy and mentorship in the field of landscape architecture. We’re currently seeking two Co-Chairs and one Treasurer!

Review the role descriptions below to see what would be a good fit for you. If you’re ready to help shape the future of WxLA-MN, we’d love to hear from you!

  • WxLA-MN Leadership Team is looking for two new volunteer Co-Chairs to join this spring or summer of 2025.

The WxLA-MN Co-Chair position is a leadership and management role that works best as a duo (but was a single position in the past). Two Co-Chairs share responsibilities and provide support to one another throughout their commitment. Historically, the WxLA-MN Co-Chairs have found a commitment of two to three years allows for maximum impact while preventing burnout. Our current Co-Chairs, Laura Kamin-Lyndgaard (Coen+Partners) and Rachel Burand (Stantec), have been in leadership since summer 2022, and are committed to onboarding and transitioning new leaders over the course of a few months until their role ends this summer 2025.

The Co-Chairs are responsible for providing a management role to the leadership team, making decisions on behalf of WxLA-MN, representing WxLA-MN at monthly ASLA-MN meetings, organizing and facilitating monthly WxLA-MN leadership team meetings, delegating tasks to the team, managing email communications (Gmail account and Google Drive folders), and maintaining a relationship and line of communication with the University of Minnesota. This role has also included organizing and supporting the annual student scholarships, fundraising for scholarships, presenting at the ASLA MN Annual Awards Gala, and planning and executing the WxLA-MN Annual Gathering in October. The two Co-Chairs are encouraged to split up and/or share these responsibilities as they see fit. The scholarship effort and events also require time and effort from the rest of the leadership team, and/or additional volunteer WxLA members as needed. We have found it works best for an individual or duo to own an event and delegate tasks as needed.

As Co-Chair, you will own this role, and it is yours to customize. We have found this to be an exciting opportunity to be a leader and make connections within the landscape architecture community. Each WxLA-MN leadership transition has built upon what previous leaders have created, and we are excited to support the next generation! We are committed to providing guidance for the first few months as you enter this new role, but encourage you to embrace your fresh ideas, energy, and perspective to make it your own.

  • WxLA-MN Leadership Team is looking for a new Treasurer to join this fall 2025 or spring 2026.

As Treasurer you enable WxLA MN to foster connections and provide great programming through tracking expenses and donations. You also get to be connected to all events because you will make reservations for activities before they happen. The WxLA MN Treasurer Interfaces with ASLA MN treasurer and accountant who ultimately hold and track our accounts in Quick Books for tax purposes. You will also be deeply involved in the scholarship program which supports and empowers students and builds up the next generation of landscape professionals.

Similar to the co-chair roles, the outgoing treasurer will provide support to empower you to take on the role by teaching and transitioning accounts and responsibilities.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Maintain WxLA MN physical debit card and manage bank account as a sub account to ASLA MN (work with ASLA MN treasurer to set this up)

    • Track annual budget and scholarship funds (smaller role after LAF funds transfer)

    • Manage WxLA stripe account for payments

    • Work with Wufoo and Stripe to manage online event registration and payments

    • Coordinate with donors and sponsors

    • Help coordinate scholarship jury

    • Arrange scholarship checks to disburse to award winners with ASLA MN accountant and UMN faculty
